Aerial photos by Georg Gerster

10/12/07 - 01/06/08

Man’s longing to see the earth from above is an ancient dream that is already described in ancient legends. Behind this wish lies the hope of being able to view known areas more comprehensively from a distance and to understand them better. Only the bird’s eye view enables a comprehensive view of the surroundings, the extent and structure of a monument or settlement and its location in the landscape.

The aerial photos by the Swiss Georg Gerster give an overview of the most important art monuments and historical cities in the area of today’s Romania. The focus of the exhibition was on those objects that play a key role in the development of art. 16 World Heritage Sites, historical city ensembles and landscape photographs were shown. The pictures showed the diversity and cultural wealth of the new EU member Romania.
