Danube - cultural route

Bookplate for an intercultural dialogue

15.09.12 - 25.11.12

The Balkankult Foundation from Belgrade showed the best original works of art from the international bookplate competition “The Danube – Route of Culture”.

Bookplates are small graphics created by an artist, which – with the name of the owner – are stuck or stamped on the flyleaf of books. This tradition goes back to the time of Albrecht Dürer and has today developed into an art form of its own worldwide.

In 2011 the Balkankult Foundation announced an artist competition on the topic of the Danube across Europe. A jury selected 128 of these mini works of art. These can be seen in a traveling exhibition that was also shown in Serbia and Austria.
