Danube Swabian greetingsfor Baden-Württemberg's birthday

October 19, 2012 - February 3, 2013

In 2012 Baden-Württemberg celebrated its 60th birthday. Eleven Tübingen students of empirical cultural studies joined in the celebrations with their exhibition “Home Things”.

The focus was on people who have contributed to the successful integration of the south-western state. We are talking about the Danube Swabians who have arrived here since 1944/45 as refugees, displaced persons or resettlers. You have enriched the country in many ways and made a significant contribution to Baden-Württemberg’s success.

More than 500 birthday presents were on display: souvenirs from the old homeland in Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Croatia, but also things that expressed the gift giver’s attachment to their new homeland Baden-Württemberg. They are “home matters” in the best sense of the word.

The exhibition was the result of cooperation between the Ludwig-Uhland Institute for Empirical Cultural Studies at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen, the Institute for Danube-Swabian History and Regional Studies (Tübingen) and the Danube-Swabian Central Museum in Ulm.
