Hungary? Hungary!

A country portrait with photographsfrom the Hungarian National Museum

02/28/04 - 05/02/04

On May 1, 2004, Hungary will join the European Union as one of ten European countries. Reason enough to get to know the country and its inhabitants better – because Hungary is more than the popular clichés of Puszta romance and gypsy music suggest.

The exhibition Hungary? Hungary! A country portrait with photographs from the Hungarian National Museum gave an overview of the 1100-year history and culture of the Hungarians and amazed with curious details: for example, that the match is a Hungarian invention. Original photographs from the Hungarian National Museum, which were on display in Germany for the first time, offered a Hungarian pictorial chronicle of the period from 1845 to 2000.
