People and peopleson the Tisza

11/12/04 - 01/09/05

The photo exhibition of the Museum Satu Mare/Sathmar (Romania) showed the ethnic diversity in the Upper Tisza Basin. In its upper reaches, the Tisza flows through the Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary. Various peoples have lived in this region for centuries, including German settlers, the Sathmar Swabians.

The exhibition summarized the results of a multi-year research project that documented the everyday life and traditions of the people. In this predominantly rural region, the cultural forms of expression – be it in architecture, clothing or language – have been preserved across borders and for a surprisingly long time.
