Way to a better future or a deadly frontier?

Voluntary and involuntary migration along the Danube

For grades 10-13

Different ethnic groups live closely together in the Danube region. The young people learn what forms of migration have taken place on and along the Danube. On the one hand, the river was the gateway to freedom and the path to a new life; on the other hand, it also formed a dangerous border. The various motives for migration are experienced through individual fates: the search for a better life, persecution by the National Socialists or the oppression by authoritarian regimes during the Cold War.
