In this project, the International DZM Forum ‘Migration connects’ explored the DZM’s permanent exhibitions with their ears. We embarked on a search for the ‘lost’ sounds of our exhibits. What does a coffee grinder sound like? Can you hear the rustling of the skirts of traditional costumes? Can you hear the gentle buzzing of bees in the museum rooms?

The participants developed a sound rally through the DZM from various noises. They chose their favourite sounds, thought about how they could be reproduced (with objects from the collection or modern objects) and recorded them. Occasionally, ‘canned sounds’ were also used.

The sound rally was integrated into our existing media guide as a digital service. This additional tour guides our visitors through the museum like a scavenger hunt.
