Ports along the Danube
History, Architecture, People
06.02. - 15.03.2026
With their quays, ship basins, cranes, warehouses, and terminals, the Danube ports are not only important locations for tourism and goods handling, but also for cultural exchange. Merchants, sailors, day laborers, and skilled workers meet here, as do locals and migrants of various nationalities. This makes the ports a uniquely diverse environment.
The exhibition presents this colorful world and introduces new scientific findings. Photos, posters, and plans provide insight into the fascinating history and present of the Danube ports. Graphics and paintings by artists from the Catholic University Apor Vilmos (Vác, Hungary) are also on display.
The exhibition will subsequently be shown in Budapest, Novi Sad, and other cities along the Danube.
A project of the Institute for Danube Swabian History and Regional Studies (Tübingen) in cooperation with the Hungarian National Archives and the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Novi Sad, sponsored by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation.
