Hungarian-German traditional costumes

Photographs by Helmut Heil, Pécs / Fünfkirchen

02/24/12 - 04/15/12

Helmut Heil photographed the festive and everyday clothing of the Swabians in Hungary in over 60 localities. With his pictures, the dance and costume expert makes it clear how diverse the Hungarian-German clothing culture was and is. From place to place there are big differences in the mostly colorful costumes that were regularly worn in the villages until the Second World War. The clothing documented the social and ethnic affiliation within the village community.

The exhibition showed a small part of the approximately 4,000 photographs that were taken during the documentation, as well as some traditional costumes from the museum’s inventory.
