CityReading and CityDescribing

Budapest through the eyes of students

from 26.07.2024

The Danube region is characterised above all by its cultural diversity: This fact provides extensive material for projects, events, scientific studies, etc. Perspectives change, there is always something new on the subject. How do young people perceive this diversity? How do they “read” it and how do they “describe” it? The exhibition poses these questions and answers them in an experimental way.

Students from the University of Tübingen are exploring the diversity of the Danube metropolis in a seminar and during an excursion in the current summer semester. They are collecting stories and objects and designing a cabinet exhibition together with the DZM team. The project is an experiment not only for the students, but also for the DZM: an exhibition is being created in an atypical way, leaving more to chance than usual.

The seminar and excursion will be organised by Prof. Dr Reinhard Johler (Ludwig Uhland Institute for Empirical Cultural Studies), Dr Olivia Spiridon (German Seminar), Tamás Szalay (DZM) and Dr Swantje Volkmann (Cultural Officer for the Danube Region at the DZM).

Exhibition opening on Thursday, 25 July, at 7 pm
